The National Museum, also known as the National Museum of India, located in New Delhi, stands as one of the country's largest museums. Established in 1949 under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, it boasts a vast collection spanning from the prehistoric era to contemporary artworks. Situated on Janpath, the museum's blueprint was crafted by the Gwyer Committee commissioned by the Indian Government in 1946. With approximately 200,000 art pieces, primarily of Indian origin but also including foreign artifacts, it offers a comprehensive journey through over 5,000 years of history. Additionally, the museum hosts the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology on its first floor. Established in 1983 and upgraded to a university in 1989, it offers master's and doctoral level courses in art history, conservation, and museology.
